[Thailand] Amphawa Floating Market/ 安帕瓦水上市場

I believe everyone has a bucket list, and the feeling of crossing them out is just amazing!

Seeing the Floating Market in person is like a dream come true to me- the Amphawa Floating market  is the market  which local people visit on weekends,  makes it not too crowded and cheap. Also, while travelling I always hope to visit  places where local people actually go, rather than the touristic attractions.

Amphawa Floating Market Business days:

Friday-Sunday (Mostly till 8pm)

In the market you can find lots of interesting Thai foods and cute souvenirs. In some stores they have seats right beside the river, you can have a meal next to the river and enjoy the local Thai-style atmosphere.

We ended up at the end of the market (where you can see me sitting), It was less crowded and has another view of the market, with the breeze and some traditional Thai food in your hand it is worth to stay and chill here for a while.

While walking you can see people dumping leftovers in the river, that made me started walking extremely carefully to make sure not to trip and fall in, haha. I love the cultural difference that the most common thing for them is the most interesting view to us.

If your time is not limited you can arrange a one night stay here and go for  the Firefly tour, you can find plenty stands selling the tickets,60 Baht/person. It starts at 8pm and you will come back around 9:30pm.

6am in the morning there will be a monk in a  boat accepting people’s alms, if your accommodation is next to the river  you can ask the owner to prepare offerings for you. The next day you just have to sit beside the river and the monk will row his boat towards you, after you give him the offering he will chant scriptures to pray for you. (Females have to be aware whenever you see a monk, whether you pass them or give them donations you have to be careful not to touch them or they will lose their entire religious practice.)

Hope you have fun and see you next time!

The Amphawa Floating market looks like a unique place to find Thai food and other souvenir items… It’s nice to discover a place where locals go to.
